Dance!
Learn. Dance. Have fun.
Learn. Dance. Have fun.
At SkellyGhost Swing, we see swing dancing as more than just steps. It’s a living conversation between structure and spirit.
Swing dance was born in Harlem, NY in the 1920s–1940s, rooted in African American rhythm and improvisation. It’s joyful, expressive, and deeply connected to the music. You might know dances like the Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, or East Coast Swing each one shaped by its time, place, and culture.
The lead provides the frame, rhythm, and direction. Like a skeleton, they give the dance its shape and intention. The lead listens to the music and creates space for movement. They offer support, timing, and clear choices.
The follow is the spirit of the dance. They are dynamic, playful, and responsive. They haunt the lead’s steps, interpreting the music and the moment. A great follow doesn’t just copy; they respond, embellish, and bring the dance to life.
Just like a skeleton needs its spirit, and a ghost needs its frame, swing dance is built on trust, rhythm, and communication. Neither role is more important, they work together to create something spontaneous, joyful, and deeply human.
Whether you're leading or following, swing dancing invites you to listen, play, and connect with your partner, with the music, and with the room around you.
